Anisa Clark

Hello Everyone!

My name is Anisa. This past May, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Development Management, focusing on Meetings and Events, along with a business minor and a couple of certificates. Eager to further my knowledge, I decided to continue my education by pursuing a Master’s at Arizona State University, studying Community Resources Development (Tourism). I am also a first-generation college student! 🇵🇭🇺🇸🇲🇽

I jumped straight into college after graduating high school and completed the accelerated Master’s program. It’s been go, go, go since preschool, but I absolutely loved my college experience and believe it truly is the best years of your pre-adult life. Fortunately, I had great professors who made my college journey that much more enjoyable. I’ve grown both professionally and personally over these few years.

As a detail-oriented individual with a passion for providing memorable experiences for people who come together for a shared interest, I aspire to be an Event Manager (preferably at a sporting stadium). With my Master’s degree, I am leaning towards a career as a City Planner or Event Manager, producing community-driven events for the city.

Some of my hobbies include being by the water, traveling, and playing both indoor and sand volleyball! I hope to travel a bit after I graduate this spring before entering the workforce. Some travel bucket-list places I have are the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and many parts of Europe! 🌎✈️

Here are some tips for incoming students:

  • Don’t procrastinate! It’s hard, but I promise life will be easier, and you can enjoy more.

  • Plan and do research ahead of time. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

  • Depending on how fast you want to graduate, speak with your academic advisor earlier rather than later to see what classes you can take at a community college or double dip. I recommend taking general studies at a community college so you can focus on specialized courses at your chosen university. 🤓

  • Mental and physical health are important. Try to find a routine and schedule that works for you to maintain a good work/life balance. 🧘‍♀️

  • Aim to try a new club or internship each year or semester if possible!

  • NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK! It’s not always what you know but who you know. 😉

Be mindful of what you post and how you act in public. You are noticed by many more people than you think, especially when looking for jobs. This doesn’t mean you should be fake—stay true to yourself!

Everything happens for a reason! If something doesn’t work out, it’s okay—don’t stress. You may have dodged a bullet; something better is coming. 😊

Find your passion! Don’t choose a career or major based on salary alone. Pick a career that you find joy in and won’t dread waking up for each morning.

Everyone comes from different backgrounds, both culturally and in life circumstances. Please do NOT feel discouraged because your path looks different from others! Take the time to listen to all the signals around you. But remember, a tree does not plant itself—you’ve got to put in the work too!

Don’t hesitate to connect if you have any further questions about my journey. I am always happy to meet up or call. 🤗 Best wishes on your next chapter of life! 🎓💼📚
